Motivation: Presented by Your Dog, Activated by You

What Does Life with Your Dog Look Like?

Your dog is not quite the easy-to-be-with companion you wanted.  You love him, but you wish there was a better way to manage your life with him.  You already have the sources of motivation to change your dog’s behavior; he’s displaying them, right in front of you:

  • Your dog is great:  he’s funny and cute!  But “he doesn’t listen to what you want him to do”
    • You aren’t connecting, engaging, understanding each other, being functional partners.
  • You may have a pet with problems:  fears, anxiety
    • You need to understand what’s going on – what he needs.
  • The dreams you had when you got a dog are fading because they don’t seem possible.
    • Relaxing at home with your dog at your side
    • Walks that are pleasures, not chores
    • Vet visits you both look forward to
    • Car rides without drama
    • Time with friends at dog-friendly cafes and other venues

What More Motivation Do You Need?

Imagine reaching your goals through just a few minutes of fun each day! The motivation is right there in front of you, in the form of a furry, smiling, possibly drooling canine companion. He’s not doing what you want, and he won’t unless you teach him. He might even be actually doing some things that you really don’t like! He is not motivated to change his behavior; but you might be.

My classes are fun and teach what you and your pet need to succeed. Watch your dog start to wiggle with joy when you start training! You’ll see your dog “asking” you what you’d like for her to do. I’ll teach you to use positive reinforcement like a pro, to get the behaviors you want.

Motivation: Presented by Your Dog

Sound too good to be true?  It’s not. Over 30 years and hundreds and hundreds of students have shown that exactly what I’m describing is possible. You have to want it, and you have to be ready to take action to learn.  You definitely can’t keep doing the same things you’re already doing and expect different results!  Your dog has presented you with multiple sources of motivation. You’re the one who needs to put that motivation into action.

Need a Little More Motivation?

Use your problems, your challenges, to motivate yourself to make changes in your life with your dog.  You don’t know quite how to create the solutions, but instead of going online and jumping on random bandwagons, let’s talk about it.  Think of training your dog as a college course in teamwork. You’ll learn new ways to do new things. You’ll learn how to communicate clearly with someone (your dog!) who doesn’t speak the same language you do.

Dog Training is Not Easy!

Dog training is not easy – if it was, you wouldn’t see poorly behaved dogs dragging their poorly behaved owners down the street.  You wouldn’t read on social media about pet parents at their wits’ end, asking what the heck they can do to keep their dog from escaping or destroying their house. Dogs wouldn’t be surrendered to shelters as often.

Training is a Lifestyle

Training will BECOME easier as you learn the skills you need to engage with your dog in a new way!  Dog training is not something you complete; it’s a lifestyle.  Practice develops your skills in setting up a partnership between yourself and any pet – current and future.  Building the skills creates not only deep communication with your pet but a routine that allows your pet and yourself the benefits of fulfillment and satisfaction.  The joy of having a canine partner is unmatched. I can’t imagine any undertaking that offers more.
